Hair knows what it wants!

This statement is scarcely true, our hair really does know what it wants/needs and mine spoke with a roaring voice late 2009 - early 2010 when it big chopped itself! It was braking off every where but most noticeably around the crown of my head, and back. I went from 10-12 inches to about 3 in less than a month in those areas. Hundreds of hair tresses all over my bed, floor, and combs. Naturally, I freaked out. I was so upset at myself for ignoring my hair for so long but even more than that, I hated that I went back to relaxers after four years of natural hair. I wanted to look more "polished" at work (my opinion of polished hair has drastically changed) so I did the whole super straight hair look, which I kept up until I got stressed about my work issue. Then I began wearing half wigs to get out the house quicker. I knew nothing about hair care, I just used whatever and never researched anything.

I hated to think of cutting my hair off but I knew it had to be done (I bought a few wigs to hide my damaged shame). I waited til my shortest part of my hair grew another half inch before going in and getting an A line hair cut. My hair was about 6 inches in the longest parts and 2-3 in the shortest. It was that day in March 2010 I decided I'll be natural from there on out. I began Transitioning and by august I had two trims and my hair was growing back in its full glory (yay me!)

On the left is my trusty wig (Feb. 2010), and the right is my natural hair pressed (Aug. 2010 - I got another trim shortly after this picture)

So I did some research and found that Motions hair care line was perfect for me! It gave me the moisture I needed without making my hair look greasy.

My Hair Regimen:
  • Wash once a week with Mizani shampoo and conditioner
  • Deep condition once a week with Motions conditioner
  • Use Marula oil ever other day for scalp (massage in)
  • seal ends every night!
  • Drink plenty of water
  • take biotin every other day
  • Flat iron once a week if at all
  • Finger Combing or Shower Combs
Last Trim : December 2010

(Feb. 2011)I tried out Genie locs/Yarn Braids when my hair was just above shoulder length,
I left the in for over three weeks and...

(March 4 2011) Now my hairs slightly past shoulder length! I over due for a trim though :)

I'm trying the two strand twist and not flat ironing for a few months (This will be the REAL challenge for me)
wish me luck~

(today) My first twist in a loose bun :)

My hair journey is not about length as much as its about me achieving health hair that full. I really enjoy my curls and want to spot them. I want to learn as much as possible about how to care for my hair and  cut the last couple of inches of relaxer out in the front of my hair! Any advice is more than welcome and will be well appreciated!

Lots of love and God bless~
